Flaming Wings & Constitutional Receipts: A Truth-Teller's Guide to American Myths
America loves heroes—but truth loves receipts.
Let’s talk about balance. Real balance. The kind where you dance in fairy towns with your kids and call out unconstitutional overreach by presidents from both political teams. The United States runs on paper—and that paper is the Constitution.
BOTH sides are gutting our freedoms. The Left wants to erase the 2nd Amendment. The Right plays fast and loose with the 1st by merging church and state. If laws are being passed to imprison people for boycotting Trump's fave country, that's a direct attack on the First Amendment.
The First Amendment guarantees freedom of speech and freedom of protest, which includes the right to boycott. In fact, the Supreme Court has upheld the right to boycott as a form of protected speech:
“The First Amendment guarantees freedom of expression, including the right to engage in symbolic speech, such as boycotting.” — NAACP v. Claiborne Hardware Co. (1982)
The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the separation of church and state through the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause. The Establishment Clause prevents the government from establishing a religion or enacting laws that favor or disfavor religious practices. The Free Exercise Clause protects individuals' right to practice their religion, or not practice any religion, without government interference.
Recent Event During Covid 19
The US Constitution does protect the right to refuse medical treatment and the right to choose one's healthcare provider. The Fourteenth Amendment's Due Process Clause protects an individual's right to make decisions about their own body, including refusing life-sustaining treatments. Additionally, the Patient Self-Determination Act reaffirms this right, allowing individuals to make choices about their healthcare.
Lincoln: The Savior Who Broke the Rules
Abraham Lincoln is often hailed as a saint of democracy. But if we’re being honest—and we always are around here—Lincoln broke the Constitution in several serious ways:
Suspended Habeas Corpus: He jailed people without trial—especially in border states like Maryland. Only Congress has that power (Article I), not the President.
Shut Down Free Press: Newspapers that criticized the Union were forcibly shut down. First Amendment? Ignored.
Declared War Without Congress: The Constitution gives Congress power to declare war. Lincoln sent troops without that declaration.
Arrested Lawmakers: Pro-secession legislators were detained to prevent them from voting.
Crushed States' Rights with Tariffs: His economic policies disproportionately hurt the South, fueling secession—not resolving it.
Even Lincoln himself admitted he was pushing the limits:
"Whether strictly legal or not... measures, otherwise unconstitutional, might become lawful." —Lincoln, 1861
Was he preserving the Union? Yes. Was he acting unconstitutionally? Also yes.
The South & the Constitution
While slavery was undeniably one issue among many, many in the South claimed their secession was also a defense of the Constitution—especially the 10th Amendment and the principle of limited federal government:
"All we ask is to be let alone." —Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy
"The people of the South are struggling for the Constitution and the Union as our fathers made it." —Alexander H. Stephens, Vice President of the Confederacy
"We want no new government... we simply wish to be governed by the Constitution of our fathers." —Confederate editorial, Richmond Enquirer, 1861
These quotes show that, for many, it wasn’t about creating something new—it was about preserving the original balance of powers and resisting what they saw as federal overreach.
Was It Really Just About Slavery? The Forgotten Amendment That Says Otherwise
While slavery was undeniably a major issue, there's a piece of history most people never hear about: the Corwin Amendment. Passed by Congress in early 1861 — before the war officially started — this proposed amendment promised to make slavery permanently protected in the Constitution.
Yes, permanently. In fact, Abraham Lincoln even said in his First Inaugural Address:
"I have no objection to its being made express and irrevocable."
So if the war was only about slavery, then why didn’t the Southern states return to the Union when offered this deal? The truth is: many in the South had deeper concerns — like high federal tariffs, states' rights, and growing Northern control over their economies and governance.
The Corwin Amendment offered slavery protection, but not constitutional balance. That was the real fire under the South’s declaration of independence.
As some Southern voices declared at the time:
“We are resisting the consolidation of all power in the federal government… to preserve the Constitution.”
— Mississippi Secession Commissioner
“The people of the South are not fighting for the perpetuation of slavery… but for the preservation of the Constitution.”
— Confederate Vice President Alexander H. Stephens (early speech, before “Cornerstone”)
Trump, Zionism & Prophetic Foreign Policy
Donald Trump didn’t technically break the Constitution with his intense Zionist policies—but let’s be clear:
When you move embassies or shape foreign alliances based on religious prophecy, you violate the spirit of the First Amendment.
America is supposed to be religiously neutral. That means no chosen religions and no divine favoritism in government policy.
“The First Amendment guarantees freedom of expression, including the right to engage in symbolic speech, such as boycotting.” — NAACP v. Claiborne Hardware Co. (1982)
Left & Right: Both Chipping Away
Let’s not pretend it’s one side. Both Left and Right are gnawing at America’s founding document:
The Left attacks the 2nd Amendment, trying to disarm citizens who are constitutionally allowed to bear arms.
The Right undermines the 1st Amendment, merging religious zeal with state power and banning uncomfortable speech.
It’s not about parties. It’s about power. And power doesn’t like being told "no"—even when the Constitution says it loud and clear.
Real Patriotism is Balance
You can love your country and still call out its leaders.
You can honor your ancestors and still refuse to worship politicians.
Balance is sacred. Truth is holy. The Constitution matters.
