The cover pic features, Mr. H.K. Edgerton, who is such a doll and he reminds me of how the black folks were when i was young, before mainstream media brain washed the public. In fact, he reminds me of my god, Papa Legba. He can be seen @

There is a lot of controversy about black folks in the Civil War so i decided to take a closer look. Due to excessive controversy i will just cite directly so that my paraphrasing doesn't interfere with the reader's interpretation.

What Does the Northern Biased Cite Say???

The Civil War Trust (2017) claims that there were no black troops, and then states that "this is not to say that no black man ever fired a gun for the Confederacy. To be specific, in the 'Official Records of the War of the Rebellion,' a collection of military records from both sides which spans more than 50 volumes and more than 50,000 pages, there are a total of seven Union eyewitness reports of black Confederates. Three of these reports mention black men shooting at Union soldiers, one report mentions capturing a handful of armed black men along with some soldiers, and the other three reports mention seeing unarmed black laborers. There is no record of Union soldiers encountering an all-black line of battle or anything close to it" (para.6).

The last paragraph from this source will be presented to exhibit flowery propaganda speech. "The modern myth of black Confederate soldiers is akin to a conspiracy theory—shoddy analysis has been presented, repeated, amplified, and twisted to such an extent that utterly baseless claims of as many as 80,000 black soldiers fighting for the Confederacy (which would roughly equal the size of Lee’s army at Gettysburg) have even made their way into classroom textbooks. It is right to study, discover, and share facts about the complex lives of 19th century black Americans. It is wrong to exaggerate, obfuscate, and ignore those facts in order to suit 21st century opinions" (Civil War Trust, 2017, last paragraph).

What Does the Southern Biased Cite Say???

"Why haven’t we heard more about them? National Park Service historian, Ed Bearrs, stated, 'I don’t want to call it a conspiracy to ignore the role of Blacks both above and below the Mason-Dixon line, but it was definitely a tendency, which began around 1910.' Historian, Erwin L. Jordan, Jr., calls it a 'cover-up' which started back in 1865. He writes, 'During my research, I came across instances where Black men stated they were soldiers, but you can plainly see where ‘soldier’ is crossed out and ‘body servant’ inserted, or ‘teamster’ on pension applications.' Another black historian, Roland Young, says he is not surprised that blacks fought. He explains that '…some, if not most, Black southerners would support their country' and that by doing so they were 'demonstrating it’s possible to hate the system of slavery and love one’s country.' This is the very same reaction that most African Americans showed during the American Revolution, where they fought for the colonies, even though the British offered them freedom if they fought for them.

It has been estimated that over 65,000 Southern blacks were in the Confederate ranks. Over 13,000 of these, 'saw the elephant' also known as meeting the enemy in combat. These Black Confederates included both slave and free. The Confederate Congress did not approve blacks to be officially enlisted as soldiers (except as musicians), until late in the war. But in the ranks it was a different story. Many Confederate officers did not obey the mandates of politicians, they frequently enlisted blacks with the simple criteria; 'Will you fight?' Historian Ervin Jordan, explains that 'biracial units' were frequently organized 'by local Confederate and State militia Commanders in response to immediate threats in the form of Union raids…'. Dr. Leonard Haynes, an African-American professor at Southern University, stated, 'When you eliminate the black Confederate soldier, you’ve eliminated the history of the South'" (Sons of Confederate Veterans, 2015, paras. 1 &2). It is very hard to find anything but propaganda against the South in print to check these sources so i found some pictures, some conflicting cites, and a statue with a black soldier.

Are There Any Statues of Black Confederates???

arlington https://deadconfederates.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/arlington.jpg?w=720

"The first military monument in the US Capitol that honors an African-American soldier is the Conf'ederate monument at Arlington National cemetery. The monument was designed 1914 by Moses Ezekiel, a Jewish Confederate, who wanted to correctly portray the 'racial makeup' in the Confederate Army. A black Confederate soldier is depicted marching in step with white Confederate soldiers. Also shown is one 'white soldier giving his child to a black woman for protection'. – Source: Edward Smith, African American professor at the American University, Washington DC" (Sons of Confederate Veterans, 2015, para.21).

Is There Conflicting Information in a Northern Biased Article???

American History (2012) states that "McPherson in his book on The Negro's Civil War does note that a small number of blacks fought for the Confederacy, he mostly equates 'the Negro's contribution during the Civil War' with service to the Union. The brevity of his acknowledgement that groups of coloreds did offer their service to Confederate government is striking, but is likely due to the fact that they, unlike their Union counterparts, did not end up serving in offical ranks.(7) McPherson, eager to go against the notion of negroes as 'passive, docile, uncomprehending,' still relucted to acknowledge active black participation in the Confederate Cause" (para.2).

Despite the above admission this author uses a whole bunch of flowery words to say that first hand accounts such as letters don't mean as much as second hand accounts found by historians. He says scholars are not as capable as saying there was black soldiers as historians are. He also says that the pictorial evidence means nothing in more flowery words.

Is There Pictorial Evidence???

The following photos were gleaned from the article in which the man claimed first hand letters aren't as god for sources as second hand research.

Does An Outside Source Admit to Black Confederates???

Ancestral Findings.com, (2017) states that
"the existence of African American Confederate soldiers was noted with disdain and a bit of pity by popular abolitionist speaker and former slave Frederick Douglass during the Civil War. Union soldiers reported encountering them. Why were they there?" (para.2). Here is outside evidence to cite the Southern Biased source. Sons of Confederate Veterans. (2015) says, "Union General U.S. Grant in Feb 1865, ordered the capture of 'all the Negro men… before the enemy can put them in their ranks.' Frederick Douglas warned Lincoln that unless slaves were guaranteed freedom (those in Union controlled areas were still slaves) and land bounties, “they would take up arms for the rebels” (para.13).

This article ends saying that "for a long time, scholars argued that no African American soldiers fought for the Confederacy. However, the historical evidence, mainly in the highly trustworthy sources of first hand accounts of them by people who saw them, and Confederate war records that identify them prove they did exist. Some even fought in an unofficial capacity before African Americans were officially allowed to become soldiers in the Confederate States of America.

While their presence as Confederate soldiers makes up only about one percent of the 750,000 white soldiers, the fact that there were any African American Confederate soldiers at all is historically important. Their various reasons for fighting for what would seem the wrong side for them gives us a lot of insight into what was really going on in the south during the pre-Civil War era, as well as during the war itself. Knowing they were there helps us understand the history of the south better" (Ancestral Findings.com, 2017, paras. 7 & 8).

 “Contraband Camp” Atrocities

What happened in the Union “Contraband Camps”? Runaway slaves and those seized with the Confiscation Acts were held in “Contraband Camps”. In 1963, Confederate President Jefferson Davis stated that "there is little hazard in predicting that in all localities where the enemy have a temporary foothold, the Negroes, who under our care increased sixfold ... will have been reduced by mortality during the war to no more than one-half their previous number” (Morgan, 1993). Even a Union officer declared that conditions in these camps were “frightful” and spoke of mortality rates as "most competent judges place it as no less than twenty-five percent in the last two years" (Morgan, 1993). Although the number lost is not known, there were many who died and even more who suffered from neglect, exposure, and starvation (Morgan, 1993). It is sad that even those who screamed for abolition of slavery could not or would not extend human decency to the slaves who were freed. This author can continue with evidence of President Lincoln’s racism; however, it seems like enough data has been presented in order to move on. Charles Wesley, a black historian, reported that “Although Lincoln believed in the destruction of slavery… he desired the complete separation of the whites and blacks. Throughout his political career, Lincoln persisted in believing in the colonization of the Negro" (Morgan, 1993).

Zionist controlled Wikipedia claims that the Union was goode to the "Contraband"  It also says that "the word spread quickly among southeastern Virginia's slave communities. While becoming a "contraband" did not mean full freedom, many slaves considered it a step in that direction. The day after Butler's decision, many more escaped slaves found their way to Fort Monroe and appealed to become contraband. As the number of former slaves grew too large to be housed inside the Fort, the contrabands erected housing outside the crowded base from the burned ruins of the City of Hampton."
